This is an excellent textbook that would appeal to those new to the field as well as those who have prior experience in the subject area. The mixture of narrative and clear diagrammatic representation has been skilfully woven together to produce a rich contextualised resource.It provides an excellent introduction to the subject and balances a historical perspective with recent developments. Although it is easily accessible,in places it doesn't shy away from more complex,but relevant computational analysis.(It) discusses the key concepts well and in an easy to understand format,with useful exercises and examples of real-world applications.The writing style is appropriate,consistent and very clear.My "go to" introductory text on bioinformatics. Accessible,yet intelligent.
